National Creators Award Unveiled by Prime Minister Modi on International Women’s Day

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the inaugural National Creators Award at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

  • Over 1.5 lakh nominations were received in the first round, with approximately 10 lakh votes cast during the voting phase.
  • The 23 winners, including three international creators, were selected across twenty categories, including Best Storyteller, Disruptor of the Year, Celebrity Creator of the Year, Green Champion Award, and Best Creator for Social Change.

Sahityotsav: World’s Largest Literary Festival by Sahitya Akademi Celebrates 70 Years

  • Sahityotsav, the world’s largest literary festival by Sahitya Akademi, will take place from March 11th to 16th, commemorating the academy’s 70th anniversary.
  • Over a hundred renowned writers and scholars will participate, with more than 190 sessions representing over 175 languages of India.
  • The festival’s highlight includes the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2023 presentation ceremony on March 12th at New Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium.
  • Pratibha Rai, a distinguished Odia writer, will be the Chief Guest for the Awards Presentation Ceremony.

MoSPI signs MoU with ISRO’S NRSC to facilitate urban frame survey in digital mode

  • The field Operations Division (FOD) of the National Sample Survey Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) under the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to facilitate urban frame survey (UFS) in a digital mode
  • The state-of-the-art GEO ICT (information communication technology) tools and techniques using Bhuvan platform will be used for UFS

  • NRSC was established in 1974 as the National Remote Sensing Agency a registered society under the Department of Science and Technology
  • The centre was renamed NRSC and became a full-fledged centre of ISRO in 2008

Sweden Joins NATO as 32nd Member, Strengthening Alliance Unity

  • Sweden completes the accession process and officially becomes the 32nd member of NATO after a two-year journey.

  • At the Washington ceremony, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasizes unity and solidarity as guiding principles for Sweden.
  • US President Joe Biden remarks on NATO’s strengthened position, stating that the alliance is “stronger than ever today.”

  • Indian Consulate in Dubai introduces the Life Protection Plan (LPP) for Indian blue-collar workers in the UAE.
  • LPP provides financial benefits to the families of workers in the event of natural or accidental deaths.
  • The Life Protection Plan (LPP) became effective from March 1, 2023.
  • The plan covers death due to any cause, whether natural or accidental.
  • Aimed at benefiting blue-collar workers and other employees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
  • The plan ensures financial security for the families of the insured workers in case of unfortunate incidents.

  • This is attributed by lower investment in sectors like computer hardware and software, telecom, auto and pharma
  • However, inflows increased from countries like Mauritius, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany
