- The BIO International Convention Was Held In San Diego, United States Of America From 3 To June 2024. The Bio International Convention Is Considered To Be The World’s Largest Event In The Field Of Biotechnology With The Participation Of More Than 18,500 Industry Leaders From Across The Globe.
What Are Biopharmaceuticals?
Biopharmaceuticals Are A Type Of Medical Drug Which Is Produced By Using A Living Being’s Organs And Tissues, Microorganisms, Animal Fluids, Or Genetically Modified Cells And Organisms. It Is Different From Drugs That Are Manufactured Using Different Chemicals.
It Uses Biotechnology To Produce Drugs, Which Are Mainly Proteins And Nucleic Acids (DNA, RNA, Or Antisense Oligonucleotides). It Is Estimated That In The Next 5 To 10 Years, Around 50 Per Cent Of The Medical Drugs To Be Developed Will Be Biopharmaceuticals.
Inauguration of AQ-AIMS and Air-Pravah on World Environment Day 2024

- On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024 (5th June 2024), S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), inaugurated an indigenous Air Quality Monitoring System (AQ-AIMS) during the event held in New Delhi, Delhi.
- He also launched the mobile application “Air-Pravah” for real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring. The AQ-AIMS and Air-Pravah were developed under MeitY-supported technologies.
Bihar’s Nagi & Nakti Bird Sanctuaries takes India’s Ramsar site to 82

- The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified Nakti and Nagi bird sanctuaries in Bihar as the newest wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar convention. Both the sites are man-made and situated in the Jhajha forest range of Jamui district of Bihar.
- Bihar now has three wetland sites under the Ramsar convention, and the total number of Ramsar sites in the country has increased to 82.
About 81st and 82nd Ramsar Site of India
- Nagi Bird Sanctuary was notified as the 81st Ramsar Site of India. The Nagi wetland area, spread over 791 hectares in the Jamuai district of Bihar, is a man-made site created by constructing a dam on the Nagi River.
- Nakti Bird Sanctuary is the 82nd Ramasar site in India. It is also a man-made site created by Nakti Dam and is spread across 332 hectares. It is near the Nagi Bird Sanctuary and is also located in the Jamuai district of Bihar. The dam’s lake is a habitat for over 150 species of birds, mammals, fish, aquatic plants, etc.
- Bihar now has three Ramsar sites. The first one was Kanwar Lake in Begusarai district, which was declared a Ramsar site in 2020.

- India and China jointly hold the third-largest number of Ramsar sites in the world, with 82 sites each.
- The United Kingdom leads the list with 175 sites, while Mexico is second with 144 sites.

India ratified the Ramsar Convention in 1982.
- The first Indian wetland sites included in the Convention were Chilika Lake (Odisha) and Keoladeo National Park (Rajasthan) in 1981.
- Amongst the states, Tamil Nadu has 16 sites, followed by Uttar Pradesh, which has 10.

- The Newly Elected Members Pakistan, Somalia, Panama, Denmark, And Greece Will Replace Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Ecuador And Switzerland. These Countries’ Terms Will End On 31st December 2024.
- The Newly Elected Members Will Join Algeria, Guyana, The Republic Of Korea, Sierra Leone And Slovenia As The Other Non-Permanent Members Of The UN Security Council. The Terms Of Algeria, Guyana, The Republic Of Korea, Sierra Leone And Slovenia Started On 1 January 2024 And Will End On 31st December 2026.

- On June 2024, Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft lifted off to space on its maiden voyage to the International Space Station (ISS) with 2 National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams. The astronauts are in orbit on the 1st crewed flight test for the ISS.

- Indian Origin American Sunita Williams is the 1st female astronaut to fly on the 1st flight of a crewed mission of Boeing Starliner.
