Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches ‘Create In India Challenge-Season One’

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched ‘Create in India Challenge-Season One’ in New Delhi on August 22 in the run-up to the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vaishnaw said that reflecting the evolution of Indian economy and the impact of technological advancements, 25 challenges have been launched.

South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre to be launched in B.R. Hills

Kaanu, a South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre, will be launched at the Tribal Health Resource Centre (THRC) at BR Hills, Karnataka on August 25. Prashanth N. Srinivas, a medical doctor and public health researcher working at the Institute of Public Health, Bangalore’s field station in B.R. Hills, says that Kaanu, which means evergreen forest in both Kannada and Soliga language.

  • Location: Tribal Health Resource Centre (THRC) at BR Hills, Karnataka.
  • Name Meaning: “Kaanu” translates to “evergreen forest” in Kannada and Soliga languages.
  • Purpose: To serve as the first knowledge centre dedicated to the past, present, and culture of South Indian Adivasi communities.

  • Library: Features publications on and by tribal communities from Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
  • Annotated Bibliography: Includes over 1,200 works on the South Indian Adivasi world; available online from September at no cost.
  • Book: Co-written by South Indian Adivasi and non-Adivasi scholars; still in preliminary stages.

Origins: Initiated by a collective of Adivasi leaders, scholars, and non-Adivasi researchers, inspired by a writing workshop held at Muntipalya, BRT foothills.

Health Ministry constitutes National Task Force on Healthcare Worker Safety

The Health Ministry has formed a 14-member National Task Force (NTF) to address the safety and working conditions of medical professionals in India. In response to ongoing protests and as mandated by the Supreme Court, the NTF will develop recommendations focused on preventing violence against healthcare workers and establishing national protocols for dignified and safe working conditions across the medical profession.

  • Purpose: To address safety and working conditions of medical professionals, in response to protests and a Supreme Court mandate.

RBI Approves IndusInd Bank’s Wholly Owned Asset Management Subsidiary

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted approval to IndusInd Bank Limited to set up a wholly owned subsidiary to undertake the asset management business of Mutual Funds(MF).

SEBI Introduces New Borrowing Guidelines for AIFs and Extends Tenure for LVFs

On August 2024, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced new guidelines for borrowing by Category-I and Category-II Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs). It has also extended the maximum permissible limit of tenure by Large Value Fund for Accredited Investors (LVFs).

  • New Guidelines:
    • Borrowing: Category-I and Category-II AIFs can borrow for up to 30 days to meet temporary or operational needs, up to 4 times a year, not exceeding 10% of investable funds.
    • Tenure Extension: Large Value Funds for Accredited Investors (LVFs) can extend their tenure up to 5 years with consent from two-thirds of unit holders.
  • Regulations: Amendments made to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012.
  • New Framework: SEBI has introduced a framework allowing Venture Capital Funds (VCFs) to transition to AIF regulations.
