Permanent Education Number (PEN): Simplifying Student Transitions

  • Mandatory Implementation: Starting from the academic year 2024-25, the School Education Department in the state requires the use of Permanent Education Number (PEN) for all students.
  • Unique Identifier: PEN is a unique identification number assigned to each student by the Union Ministry of Education through the UDISE+ portal.
  • Scope: UDISE+ covers over 14.89 lakh schools, 95 lakh teachers, and 26.5 crore children, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
  • Streamlining Transition: Implementation of PEN aims to simplify and streamline the process of students transitioning between schools.
  • Addressing Challenges: Previously, students faced challenges during transitions due to requirements for various documents, resulting in delays and even dropouts.
  • Impact: PEN implementation will alleviate hardships for parents, ensuring smoother transitions for students, especially in crucial academic years like Classes 2, 5, 7, and 8.

  • This leadership change comes amidst a wave of senior management departures attributed to internal disputes.

India delivers first batch of BrahMos to Philippines:

  • India delivered the first batch of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to Philippines
  •  In January 2022, Philippines concluded a $375-million deal with India for three batteries of shore-based, anti-ship variant of the BrahMos becoming the first export customer for the joint venture missile between India and Russia.
  • The first batch was delivered onboard transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force which landed in Philippines Specifics of the delivery made were not immediately available.
  • Philippines is acquiring the systems under the Horizon 2 of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Programme.
